Gradebook

I am unable to create a gradebook spreadsheet. Followed the example given by Microsoft using =LOOKUP, was very sure I typed it correctly but would ot work. I have Excel 2008 for Mac. Does anyone know of a gradesheet I can view and see how they did the formula?
