# I want to be able to copy/paste a formula

1. ## I want to be able to copy/paste a formula

Lets say I have values in A1, B1, and A25. I have a formula in C1 as follows:
=(A1*B1)/A25

How can I write this formula differently so that if I were to select C1 cell, copy, then paste it into C2 it will read as follows:
=(A2*B2)/A25

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx. Register To Reply

Use \$:

=(A1*B1)/\$A\$25 Register To Reply

Think of the \$ as a place holder in a formula. If is only before the column (\$A25), then the column reference will not change when the formula is copied. If is only before the row (A\$25), then the row reference will not change when the formula is copied. If it is before both (\$A\$1) the neither row or column reference will change when copying the formula.

Relative reference A25
Mixed reference \$A25 or A\$25
Absolute reference \$A\$25 Register To Reply
