Are these AutoFilter drop down arrows

I have a sheet which has AutoFiliter-like drop down cells, but they don't act or seem to be autofilter boxes. Can some one tell me what they are and how to get rid of them.

They are in row 1 in this file:
    Attached Files Attached Files

They do look like autofilters but don't filter. Don't seem to be data validation fields either?

Insert a row below the header row and then copy the cells contents then delete the entire "filtered" row.

Don't know what that is, possibly some corruption in the file, but to get back to normal

    - make a duplicate of Row1
    - delete the row with the fake dropdowns
    - go Data - Filter - Autofilter to restore proper autofilter dropdowns.

Thanks, but these soultions are workarounds which I am aware of. I need to know what exactly these are and how to 'remove' them. I even tried vba code but nothing seems to affect them.

other than possible file corruption I wouldn't have a clue. Does that happen in more than one file? How did you create the sample?

I received that file from someone who was trying to set up autofilter in that row. And yes it is this workbook only that has this issue.

As it is not data validation, object, any sort of filter, form, or activex controls or VBA, then it is simply a corrupt file. I would guess that something was there (you said someone had put in autofilter) and then it was erased but the file became corrupted and the arrows stayed. Sorry, best I can do.

Whatever they are, they serve not purpose, and should be EXTERMINATED.

When you say you "tried VBA code", what exactly do you mean?
    =IF(AND(OR(BLONDE,BRUNETTE,REDHEAD),OR(MY PLACE,HER PLACE),ME),BOW-CHICKA-BOW-WOW,ANOTHER NIGHT ON THE INTERNET)
