    Finding data duplicates

Actually it's more complicated than just finding the duplicates.

I am a commissions analyst. The company I work for is an indirect dealer for a well known cellular carrier. I have an Excel report that contains all the appeals I have submitted and their status. Each month I submit more appeals and each month I have to download the new status report from the carrier and use that data to update my report. After I combine the reports I want to view the duplicates so I can make any notes on the most recent data and then delete the older duplicate. what is the best way to do this?

Not knowing the layout of your report, it is impossible to say. If you can upload an example with dummy data, it would help a lot. If you can't, but the data is laid out in a table and you simply add rows to the bottom each month and delete old rows, you can apply filters to the data and use a unique field to go to each appeal. In a cell to the right, you can have a formula like =IF(COUNTIF(A1:A$10000,A1)>1,0,1), where A is the unique field and A10000 is the end of your range. This will put a 0 in every row where the unique value appears again, making it easy to apply a filter to that column, filter to 0, and delete all rows. hth.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
