    shift-tab calculated field

I'm using Excel to form some barcodes for me that I use during dataEntry on a website. For example, one of the barcodes puts in 10 tabs to go to the first field for dataEntry. Another one puts in the correct number of tabs to go to the next record. Anyway, it works.

I formed the barcodes by first forming the Tab within Excel (using CHAR(9)) and then using a formula that concantenates the correct number of tabs together, slap a barcode font on it and print.

I'm trying to also have a barcode that will allow me to "shift-tab" - back up on the dataEnty form. I can't figure out how to form that character in Excel. Without that, I can't form the barcode, etc. Can anyone suggest how to form the "shift-tab character" in Excel?

    TIA.

could you post an example of what you actually do to achieve this?

I just use the formula "+rept(char(9),10)" to get the string that I want. My barcode company gave me a routine that converts that string into a code128 barcode that I then print and use. When I scan that barcode, I get 10 tabs. What I haven't been able to do is to get a "shift-tab".

I'm still not clear on what you need but maybe this will help:

so, in Excel terms, shift-tab =char(15)

don't know if that helps, but it's not really an Excel issue.

    Re: shift-tab calculated field

I tried the char(15) approach and it didn't work - it actually performed as if I had pressed the tab key. Is there a way that I can combine the char(15) within a macro so that, when executed, will do nothing other than move the activeCell one column to the left - as if I had pressed shift-tab from witnin Excel. Any ideas?

    TIA.
