    IF formula

    Hi. Can someone help me with an if formula? I want to count the number of times a certain alphabetic character occurs within a range, and then display the result in a cell. Something like this?

    if(A1:A10=a, +1, +0)

    I know my syntax is off, but you get the idea.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: if formula help

    Can "a" appear more than once within a cell? Does it get counted each time it occurs or only once per cell?
