Help with Macros and/or Conditional Formatting.

Thank you for all of those that took the time to look at this. Currently I am going to put this as solved - since I was asked to completely change the process of this spreadsheet. ~P

Hello everyone, I am not sure the best to create this process. The method of this project is still at the beginning phases. This is what I am currently trying to accomplish:
    1) The Matrix Info tab will contain all my different Programs (Column A) that can be selected.
    2) To make this simple for right now I only selected our “Design Phase” only, (Column B).
    3) The idea is – When a customer selects a Program such as “EPC-Upgrade / Rebid”, only the Design items related to EPC-Upgrade / Rebid will populate in Data Input tab. An example of the items that would be part of EPC-Upgrade / Rebid is shown in Data Input (1) tab.
    4) If they select “EPC – New” then only those items on the list will populate on the Data Input tab. An example of the items that would be selected for “EPC – New” is shown on the Data Input (2) tab.
    5) The goal would be to have only one Data Input tab, so when you select your Program the Data Input tab is updated with the require items for that program.
I hope this is making sense on how I would like this to function. I was thinking either Macros or Conditional Formatting would help with this. I am not that advance in Excel but am very quick learner and could use the expert out there for help.
    Thank you

    Hi Inez,

Your problem looks to me like a Pivot Table with a Slicer. You will need to put your data in a TABLE to do this kind of filtering and reporting.
Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgt7SdrYJqg or Bing Pivot Table Slicer.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

Marvin - Thank you for your response. I have never seen the slicer used before and I can see where it may work. My concern are these:
1)Ideally we want for the customer to have little control or actions that they need to perform
2)So if the customer is to make one selection such as, EPC – New, then everything they will need in that category will populate on the next tab.
3)They then tab over to the next tab and ALL they need to do is add the Start and Finish time, for those categories that were dropped in.
Hope it makes sensea and any help I can on this would be great - Thank you everyone.
    Please see the previous attachment.

Re: Help with Macros and/or Conditional Formatting.

Please help because I am now really stuck.

Ok I tried to use the recommended Pivot Table Slicer and unfortunately it does not work for the project I am working on.

When a customer selects their Program such as "EPC - Upgrade / Rebid" that automatically the categories under design are selected and populated in the next tab - it would like tag label "Data Input (1). Then allowing for the customer to fill in the Start and Finish dates which automatically calculates the durations.
Basically column B will be hidden all they will see in the Matrix Info tab is the option of what Program they can select. Once selected their Program the working tab "Data Input" opens and they just fill in the start and finish dates.

Look forward to any help I can get with this. --- Thank you!!

Re: Help with Macros and/or Conditional Formatting.

    Hi Inez,

Where to start? Excel works with TABLES of data. Your sheet 1 is not in a table format. Pivot Tables work with TABLES and your sheet 1 is not an Excel table. Try some of these http://www.lynda.com/Excel-2010-tuto...h/77968-2.html

Many users don't get what a "table" really is. They make their sheets look great but work awful. Sorry I'm of little help.

Marvin, You have been of great help in the what you have shown me. You are correct sheet 1 is not a table. I really should of removed it to avoid confusion. But for now we can close this trail of email. They have now taken me to different direction on how they want to this work so I will now need help with that. I will post a new message looking for help on some formulas. If you can help with what is to come I would greatly appreiciate it. ~~ Thank you,P
