Validation List

I have validated a cell with the list properties. Created a list that it references. All cells for the list and the validated cell are unprotected. I have other cells on the sheet that need protection. If my sheet is unprotected, I can use the dropdown list or enter into the cell directly. If my sheet is protected, I can use the dropdown list but can't enter into the cell directly. Is there a way to allow direct entry in the cell and/or use the list when the sheet is protected? If not, is there a work around?

Before protecting the sheet.. unlock that cell by selecting it and by going to Format|Cells and in the Protection tab, uncheck Locked

I have already done that per my previous explanation. I unprotected the cell ( unchecked ) and when I apply a sheet password it does not allow me to enter in the cell.

! I just checked:

Sort
Use Auto Filter
Use Pivot Table
Edit Objects
Edit Scenarios

in the passwords box..... and now it is working!
