    Average an concatenated array

I have concatenated on Sheet1 that looks simlar to this example: 'Sheet2'!D4:D8 (this array is the content of Cell A4 on Sheet1)

In Sheet1 I need to get the average of 'Sheet2'!D4:D8 by using the formula =AVERAGE(A4). I am getting an error message from this formula. Any one know what I am doing wrong?

    Frogger0102,

    In Sheet1, if cell A4 contains Sheet2!D4:D8

In Sheet1, cell B4, put the following formula:
    =AVERAGE(INDIRECT(A4))
    Have a great day,
    Stan

    Windows 10, Excel 2007, on a PC.
