Applying Conditional Formatting to an Entire Row

    Hi everyone,

Say I have the details below in a worksheet. Under Status, I applied conditional formatting whereas Closed will have a background color of blue. This works perfectly fine.

My question is - Is there a way to apply conditional formatting to an entire row? Say, I have Closed as status, entire row 2 will have a background color of blue.

    A B C
    1 Name Status Client
    2 Stephen Closed Summit
    3 Robert New Mini Stop

Also, Is there a way to assign short cut keys in Excel similar to MS Word? say, I need to do paste special. Instead of going to edit>paste>special.

    I am using 2003 version.

    Thanks in advance!

    Maiyk

Beginning with the very first cell in the range you want to apply CF to, highlight all of the cell in the range.

Use the Formula option for the conditional format and in the formula make the column reference absolute.

Example - with the range A1:C50 highlighted (beginning with A1)
Apply the condtional format with this formula

    =$B$1="Closed"

Excel will update all cells in the range and adjust the row reference in the formula for each row.

Re: Applying Conditional Formatting to an Entire Row

My apologies but I don't understand the instructions.

Can you apply this on details I gave awhile ago?

    A B C
    1 Name Status Client
    2 Stephen Closed Summit
    3 Robert New Mini Stop

Thank you. Really sorry. My mind isn't working right at this hour.

Disregard my reply. I got it now. It must have been the wee hours. It's already 2am in our place. Thanks much.

Assuming your range of cells is from A1:C50, row 1 is a header row
    1. Select cell A2
    2. Scroll down the last cell in the range (cell C50 in this example), press the Shift key and click on the cell
    3. Becareful to NOT unselect the cells
    4. Go to Format > Conditional Formatting and choose the Formula option
    5. In the box for the formula type this: =$B2="Closed"
    6. Set your format options as desired
    7. Click OK
