Excel 2007 : cell contents are invisible while formula bar is visible

cell contents are invisible while formula bar is visible.
I have quadruple checked the font and fill color. fill color looks fine. font color never updates...or does not appear to because I cannot see any contents in the cell at all.

some of these are linked to other workbooks. although there are a couple that are simple text values and even those aren't appearing. some of these cells are protected but other protected cells are showing up fine. I cannot seem to find what the problem could be.

I came from an earlier version of excel....not sure which one but I can't imagine that I did anything so different in terms of backward/forward compatability as to have a problem this major.

please help!

Hi Jaredboice,

It sounds like your worksheet has some Conditional Formatting enabled. To check, you can open the Conditional Formatting dialog from the Home tab in Excel 2007 and selecting 'Manage Rules..'

Any chance there's a conditional format on these cells? If not, any way you could post the workbook, with dummy data if necessary?

The problem is that your font colour is the same as the background color, such as white on white.
