Will changes i make be known by anyone?

When I try to access my excel through the password at work I get this message-

This work contains links to other data sources. If you update the links, Excel will attempt to retrieve the latest data.

If you dont update the links, Excel will use the previous information.

Note that data links can be used to access and share confidential information without your permission and possibly perform other harmful actions. Do not update the links if you do not trust the source of this workbook.

Does this mean that any changes I make to the excel database will result in these changes being known by other computers in the company for example? What does this message mean exactly? Or will the database just be changed and so if someone doesnt remember what was there originally then they won't be aware of the changes?

Hi textbook, welcome to the forum.

The message means that there are some cells in your Excell sheet that draw their data from other sources, either other Excel files or any kind of external data that Excel can access.

If you don't update the links, the file will show you the values that were present when the workbook was last saved.

If you choose to update the links, the cells with references to external data will attempt to connect to the external data source(s) and get the latest version of the content.

You must decide whether or not you trust any data that comes into your workbook.

If you make changes in the file, these should normally not be broadcast around your company network.

Why are you worried someone will know you have changed things? If you're not supposed to change them, then don't. If you are tasked with changing them, then do so.

    Where is the problem?
