Excel 2007 : Slow Subtotals in Excel 2007

I've used the Excel Subtotal function for a number of years. I am quite dissapointed with the Excel 2007 - VERY Slow subtotaling. Any suggestions how I can improve performance?

Just for sake of clarity - do you mean Subtotal functionality (ie insertion of subtotal rows) or independent Subtotal worksheet functions (ie above filters etc...)

I have to say I've not found SUBTOTAL to be particularly slow however...

Altering row visibility is a volatile action so if

a) you have other generally expensive functions in place that are now referencing much larger ranges than was previously the case (think Sumproduct, any Array)

and

b) these are Volatile (ie include OFFSET etc) or they specifically reference the Filtered range

then you're likely to experience slow down to some extent.

Regardless - to suggest improvements I think we'd probably need to see a sample.
