Apply formula on Sheet1 from Sheet2

Hello

I have Sheet1 And Sheet2.

Sheet1 has 4 columns and 50 rows. 1 column is numbers only and 2 text only and 1 numbers and text.

Within each column, a value occurs many times.

Now in Sheet2 I want a small summary table which counts how many times each unique value has appeared on the Sheet1 table.

What formula could i use on Sheet2 to do it like =Sheet1!(A1:A50 "New York")? which does not work.

I have to use Sheet2 and not store any values on Sheet1.
