I have a user with this issue.

They have a spreadsheet (Tax.xls) that links to three other spreadsheets.

When they open this spreadsheet they get the message that there are links and asked if they want to Update or Don’t Update.

The user presses the Update button and every time they get a message saying it is unable to open a spreadsheet IBITM.xls that is out on an intranet portal. Then they can click ok.

Then a message says one or more links cannot be updated and they can Continue or Edit Links.

When choosing Edit Links all the three links have a status of OK and there is no link showing the IBITM.xls source on the earlier message.

I’ve tried troubleshooting the issue by doing the following:

When I break all the links then I no longer get the unable to open IBITM.xls message.

I have to break all the links. I tried breaking just one link of each of the three files separately but it always gives me the unable to open ... message unless all three links are broken.

I thought maybe when I opened one of the three files I would get this same message, but when I open them I do not get the unable to open… message.

I’m guessing there is something in the Tax.xls spreadsheet trying to link to the file on the intranet. I’ve tried to do a find but Excl cannot find it.

Can anyone suggest another way to find where in the spreadsheet this link to the intranet file is coming from and how to remove it?
