max formula error

I am using a max formula in column AC the seems to work sometimes and not for others. If you look at the sample you can see in AC6 & AC7 the max formula workes based on the #1 in both E6 & E7, but does not work in AC9 $ AC10 based on the #3 in E9 & E10.
please help.

Have you attached the right workbook? I can not seem to find any references in AC9 & AC10

perhaps you could paste colum ab as values first, as it returns errors on the attachment as we can not link to the S drive.

Well I do not see errors on the attached but the formula is a bit odd
=IF(MAX(IF(E6=E7,AC7,0),AB6,IF(E6=E7,AC7,0))=AB6,AB6,0)

the bits highlighted red are exactly the same the formula could be rewritten
=IF(MAX(IF(E6=E7,AC7,0),AB6)=AB6,AB6,0)

what are you wanting to achieve in words?
