    Merge Cells(maybe) then delete duplicates

    First thanks for your time!

second i've searched and can't seem to find what i'm looking for. i want to merge cells in a column but have it count how many cells are similar, then modify 1 cell and delete the rest.

    Example

    Part number | Part Name
    1234 | part a
    1999 | part b
    1234 | part a
    1234 | part a
    8765 | part c

    my goal is

    Part Number | Part name
    1234 x 3 | part a
    1999 | part b
    8765 | part c

basically i want excel to remove the duplicate cells and put a X? for the amount removed.

I can't find the info anywhere.

    thanks a million!

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

You can use Advanced Filter on the Part Number column, copying Unique items to another cell.
The use the COUNTIF and VLOOKUP to build a summary table.
