Macros are not loading, where are they stored?

I have created several useful macros that I use frequently. I am not happy with the information about how these macros are stored. I would like to see a list of what macros are available, but there is none that I can find. The only "name" I remember when I created these macros was the keyboard short cut.

Now that I have migrated over to our new computer none of these macros seem to be showing up! I do daily reports which need a series of formatting steps which I automated with three macros. Previously if I loaded one of the workbooks I had already worked with, it seemed to hand off the macro to the new file needing formatting. I cannot run the macros now, no matter what files I open!

Where are macros stored? I have assumed from my earlier experimentation, that they are stored in the workbook files. Is there no way to store them with the excel.exe program? I would like these macros to be as much a permanent part of my work as control-o or control-c! Why don't the help files even mention this possibility?? (Sorry unfair question - no accounting for MicroSoft's help files.)

I purchased Excel 2002, SP3 in an effort to avoid the mess of Excel 2007. The macros were created on Excel 2002, SP3.

    Hope someone can help!
