Can Excel generate emails automatically?

I am not sure this may be possible but if it is I have no doubt someone here will know, I would like Excel to generate and send an email when a date is older than 3 years from today. I have the column now so the formating will change color when a certain product expires (3 Years) but is it possible to have it notify me by email? I hope I am clear enough if not just ask.
