I have a range of A1 thru A99, Only 1 cells can be populated at any given time, Is there a way to capture the value of the populated cell?. The value is alpha numeric characters if that makes a difference.

If you are garanteed to only have 1 value -
=INDEX($A$1:$A$99,MATCH("",$A$1:$A$99,-1))
Note that everything else must be blank. (have absolutely NO value)
=LOOKUP(REPT("z",255),A1:A99)
