    Smile Remove duplicates

I need a way to do a conditional check for duplicats. I have a sheet that has alot of members in it in the format of Last,First,Middle. What I need is that when I enter another person into the sheet it need to check for a duplicate however the problem is if I just have the Last,First name it wont find the duplicate. We tried it with the conditional formatting to turn the cells to red when found but that wont work either. ANY IDEAS??

    Thank You so much

    Randal

    Re: help on duplicates

    Randal,

are Last, First, Middle in different cells or in the same cell?

Please post a data sample to illustrate the issue.

    cheers

    Re: help on duplicates

    Hello Randal,

in the attached file I have created a helper column where the middle initial is stripped from both the names to be tested as well as the initial list. Then a simple Match statement can be used against this helper column to see if a name is a duplicate.

Mind you, this will flag a duplicate for the all names that only differ in middle name.

Is that something you can work with?

    cheers

Yes I can Work with that THANK YOU SO MUCH.. really odd though how the conditional formatting for duplicate would pick some up but not the others.
