    Comparison

    Folks,

    I was wondering if someone could help me. I would like to compare cell A1 with column E and if a match is found, then check what is to the left of the match found (column d) and compare that value with B1. If a match is found, return the value to two positions left of cell E (column)
    Basically, A and B have about 500 first and last names, D and E have about 100000 first and last names with their age in column C. I want to list the age of the people relevant to A and B in column F (where I need the formula).

    A1 = John
    B1=Berg

    E55=John
    D55=Berg
    C55=50

    I would like to display F1 as 50 which is the age of John Berg. Please help....

    Re: Comparison

    A index, match, left function should do the trick. Upload some sample data and I will plug in the formula for you.

    Re: Comparison

    Joe I updated your spreadsheet. You can drag the formula in F2 down.

    Re: Comparison

    It looks like when I extend it from 48 to 30,0000, the formula does not work> Please advise.
