    [SOLVED] Conditional formatting excel 2007

hi i am trying to make a cell become coloured based on data in another cell. Basically, I have a cell with a drop down for 2 different options ("Base" and "shared"). I want to make it so that when i choose "base", another cell in the sheet becomes yellow...how do i do this?? help is much appreciated!!

    Hello Nightsift,

click the cell you want to format, then Home Ribbon - Conditional Formatting - New Rule - Use a Formula to determine...

    Enter this formula

    =$A$1="base"

where A1 is the cell with the drop down. Click the format button and select a Fill color.

    cheers

thanks so much for the reply....that was largely what i was doing although i obviously wasnt getting the formula right xD

What you suggested worked, however what it did what make the text in that cell go yellow....what I want to do is make the cell background colour go yellow when I have selected "base" in the other cell....ideas?
