    counting multiple, specific text in the same range

    I cant get this to work....Im trying to add the number of times "DAN" and "CHRIS" are in the range D2:D84.

    If I do =COUNTIFS(D2:D84,"DAN") I get the correct number.
    If I do =COUNTIFS(D2:D84,"CHRIS") I get the correct number.

    but =COUNTIFS(D2:D84,"DAN",D2:D84,"CHRIS) always equals "0"

    What am I doing wrong?

    Re: counting multiple, specific text in the same range

    The last formula is saying that the range has to equla Dan and it has to equal Chris in the same cells.. which it obviously doesn't

    Try:

    =SUM(COUNTIF(D2:D84,{"Dan","Chris"}))
    Where there is a will there are many ways.

    Just in case you need it, the below is NBVC's formula "translated" per German regional config.:

    =SUM(COUNTIF(D2:D84;{"Dan"\"Chris"}))
