Problem with formulas changing when information is pasted

I am having a problem with a worksheet I have developed. I have the master document and all of the formulas in the worksheet are correct. The problem is that I have to cut and paste a large volume of information into the spreadsheet from an old AS400 system. Once I paste the information into the worksheet I notice that my formulas change. (not the result but the actual formula) The information is not pasted into a cell that contains a formula but those cells are referenced in the formula. For example the formula is in cell P2references cells A2-G2. A2-G2 is where the new data is pasted. So my question is how would I lock the two colums that contain my formulas so that pasting data into the referenced cells wont change the formulas.

    Thanks,

    Erik

Re: Problem with formulas changing when information is pasted

I don't know if you still have that problem but I had the same and I just found a way to fix it. (well... it's not a clean solution, but it's working, better than nothing)

So when I copy and paste my data instead of using the normal paste (ctrl + V) I use the "paste Link" option (in the clipboard section of the home tab in excel 2007) It take a little bit longer (and that because I still have not found the keyboard shortcut) but it does not change my formula.

hope that help you and if you found a better solution I would be glad to hear it, because I tried to protect the sheet and the absolute referencing and that did not help.
