    Cannot update links

Hey guys, I am going mad here! I have a book which does lookups in another. Now I am extra good in that the second book is always open when the first one is (it is also a source for combo boxes). The problem is that it repeatedly decides it cannot update links and thus gives me the error message. The most annoying thing is that it can and is updating the links!! If I break all links then everything is fine - no error message. As soon as i enter a formula, the error appears. Changing link source does no good at all.

This is driving me insane because I have an otherwise very good setup but to be forced to tell the user just to ignore the message is totally unsatisfactory to me. So can anyone explain to me why this message appears when excel immediately confirms that the links are absolutely fine?

    Many thanks

    Good morning talksalot81

Do some of the links update?
This issue sounds as though you have at least one duff formula in your workbook. You can look at all the cells with a linked formula by looking up the filename in Edot > Links and using Edit > Find and looking for part of the filename. Don't forget that hidden sheets may have formulae in too.

Also bear in mid that the error may not be a formula, but could be a linked named range, chart or even OLE object.

If there are too many links to check you may want to use an add-in to help find the problem.

Thanks for the reply. You have named the problem - named ranges.

This sort of silly little nuance is really annoying and I wish MS would give a bit mroe help in finding this sort of thing!

    Thank you
