    Conditional Formatting Copy & Paste

If I add a confitional format to cell B3 which fills the cell an orange colour if B2 does not equal the same value. How do I copy and paste this format in to hundreds of rows below so that the conditional changes relatively, i.e. cell B4 fills orange if it does not equal cell B3 and so on...

The condition also needs to not fill orange if that cell is blank.

I know I will need to change the cell reference to not be absolute but I can not work out how to do this in excel 2007.

    Example attached if that helps.

    Thanks,
    Adam.

    Hello Adam,

Often it's easiest to select the whole range first, e.g. select B3:B1000 (you can do that easily by typing B3:B1000 in the box above A1 and hitting ENTER)

Then apply the formula that should apply to the top cell, i.e. use

Conditional Formatting > New Rule > "use a formula to determine which cells to format" and then use this formula

    =AND(B3<>B2,B3<>"")

    Choose required format > OK

    That's it, all done
