Make a letter have a value to add it together

I am trying to figure out how to get my little 7 column spreadsheet to work like i want. I need to assign a value to a letter, such as W,L(win and Loss). and then figure out the percentage for the column. I am sure someone can do this in a matter of seconds after reading some peoples request it makes me feel pretty bad. If someone can please help it would be great. I would like to just add the date, the team and W,L or X.

Im not 100% sure what you are trying to do but I took a stab at it. Let me know if this is what you are looking for. If not can you elaborate.

Change the format of G2 from Text to General. Then enter and copy down,

=COUNTIF(D$1:F2, "W") & "-" & COUNTIF(D$1:F2, "L")

The object is to keep track of the winning % of the [A], [B] and [C]. So this is what i think i need to do:
Make W=1, L=1 and X=0. Add all those up and get the average as a percentage. I know i am not explaining very well. Right now if you just do it on paper Column D ([A]) has 10 wins or (w's) divided by the total number of games 15. Is a winning % of 67%. What i was hoping for was to just add the date and the team and then an W, L or X accordingly.

i got it to work but it is counting the "X" instead of making them a value of "0"
