Formula required

I have a worksheet showing a list of competitors that have been assigned a number and each competitor has three races.

Points are assigned to the competitor depending on finishing positions

After each race I want to just list the number of each competitor depending on the finishing order and apply points accordingly (1st=10 points,2nd=9 points) to each competitor.

What formula should I use???? How do I apply it????
