    Add-in giving #name? error

I'm hoping someone out there can help me with this one. I'm using Excel 2007 on a computer at work that has numerous network drives on it. I don't think has anything to do with the problem, but I want to give you as much information as possible.

What's happening is this...when I first open a file (without any add-ins selected), it opens without any problems and is setting there ready to go. So, I go to the add-in manager, select the add-in I need to convert some numbers I have, I have to browse for it, save it under my user name and settings (I've also tried not saving it too), go back to the sheet and everything works just like it should.

Now the problem happens when I close the file and then reopen it either immediately or any time thereafter. First, now that I have an add-in selected, everytime I open Excel, whether I'm wanting to work with that same file or any other, it gives me an error message before it even opens anything up. It says, "the file you are trying to open 'pmsx32.xll', is in a different format than is specified by the file extension". Second, after the file opens, if I change any of the numbers used in the conversion, I get the "#name?" error in the cells where the formula is used. Third, when I go back to select the add-in again and recopy it over my previous one, the name of it has changed. When I search for it, it's called 'pmsx32.xll', but the name of the add-in it references is called 'Petroleum Measurement Tables'. Now when I go back, it's called 'pmsx32'. I assume the Petroleum name is one saved to be more descriptive and the pmsx the original name of the file.

I hope this makes some amount of sense to someone out there. The really strange thing is that it only seems to happen to me. The three other guys who use the same worksheet don't seem to have any of these problems. They can open and close the file as much as they want and they never see these errors.

Needless to say, it's driving me nuts and I can't find a solution any where on the web, and I'm not techical enough to delve into the programing sites that discuss the "#name?" issue that might offer up some kind of solution.

I appreciate anything anyone can throw my way.

    Re: Add-in giving #name? error

I was able to solve this dilemma by running a setup program that resided in the same folder as the add-in did. This add-in looks to be part of a software package. The set-up ran and was called VCF Add-in Installation. I guess it was something really specific to this particular add-in. Took care of all the problems. That one would have been tough to solve since it was software specific and not really related to Excel in general.

Thanks for those who read it and thought about it.
