    Conditional formatting

    Hello there

I have a problem with a simple scenario:

I have a datasheet with some income and expence values and there is a cell with the total amount of money I have now. There are a few things I want to buy in the future so I have some cell with their prices. I now want to use data bars that will indicate the percentage of the money I have (if I have 20 $ and the thing costs 40$ half of the bar should be filled). The thing is that conditional formating is based on the cell it is applied on and not another one. I came up with a solution for this but I was using only one cell (the solution was to enter this in the max value: $A$1/$C$1*$A$1 where A1 is the price for the thing and C1 is the total money I have.) When I added more cells I noticed I can't use A1 instead of $A$1 so I could not just drag and corect the values. Is there any way to make this happen?

    Thanks a lot

You can try to change the Previous or the Now values to see what I mean.

    Thanks

    Re: Conditional formatting

    A1/ A1*C1 is same as 1/C1

So you don't need A1 at all... (or your formula is wrong)

    Re: Conditional formatting

It is A1/C1*A1 which is equal to A1^2/C1 and not 1/C1.

    Re: Conditional formatting

You could write "previous" as once "income".
That way you can get rid of one cell.

Also, it's better to fill data vertically then horizontaly (you can write more data and it's better overview).

And you can use Data bar without reference to current cash because it doesn't matter how much money you have only how it's distributed to your issues:

    Re: Conditional formatting

But the databars are not corect. The "lunch" databar should be full as I have the money for it ( I "Now" have 100% of the money for it ... that's why I need to use the Now value). Video game should be the lowest one because I need the most money for it.

    OK, I guess that's a good workaround.

    Thanks
