Selecting cells based on colour.

Hi all,

I need to learn some more advanced Excel techniques.

To start with, I am wondering if this is possible:

I have highlighted various cells a particular colour in an excel worksheet.

Is it possible to automatically copy all the coloured cells and paste them together either on the same worksheet or another? So if I changed the colour of a cell it would automatically be added to a list elsewhere.

I am also open to other suggestions for achieving the same effect.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

I have attached a dummy worksheet and I have updated my profile to show I am using 2007.

The dummy file shoes a list with certain entries highlighted. I want these highlighted entries copied to a list below that automatically updates when I make any changes.

2) Add filter (Data -> Filter)
3) Filter by color

Not quite what I'm looking for but thanks zbor.

Really I want to copy them to somewhere else rather than filter.

I also have another question. Is it possible to search through different excel files and paste values into cells automatically depending on the search results?

you can filter them then select -> copy -> paste spetial -> select values -> OK
