Excel 2007 : Summarizing and combining values

Can I get some assistance, please?

I have two columns of data. The first lists the Names of employees and the second lists a number (so, the Row shows the number of items that they worked on that day).

Like this:

Bob 20
Tim 25
Joe 15
Tim 23
Bob 16
Bob 23
Joe 1

As you can see, the names repeat over and over in no particular order. I do not want to re-sort these original columns, so I tried to make a cell reference to another column where I could manipulate it. One problem is that it will not sort in that column. The values are all there correctly, but they will not change order when I sort.

My goal is to have another column that summarizes the data in the original 2 columns so that it would look like this:

Bob 59
Joe 16
Tim 48

Then, as new values are added each day, the summary column would keep a running total organized by Name.
