    Offset function with unexpected results

    Hi,

Take a look at the image in attachment...

The offset function is defined so that its height is L_1_2x/0.4 + 1, which is 13, as you can see in the upper left corner. The problem is that if you notice, the offset function only selects a range with 12 cells (height)

    How come?

PS: I've recently moved to office 2010, but don't really know if that is the reason. I know that when I did this it was working fine, but i've made several changes in the excel file from that moment..

Re: Weird - offset function not working properly?

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

    This includes comments like weird!
    Hope that helps.

Re: Offset function with unexpected results

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

I'll wager that CC is compactly suggesting that you post a workbook rather than an illegible picture.

    hmmm....interesting...

i just re-installed office 2007 and it works great again....could it be a 2010 bug?

PS: yes royUK, I do have lots of names...is that a bad thing? could it mean trouble in the future?

Re: Offset function with unexpected results

    Gosh, what a lot,

I originally wrote something along the lines of:

Offset/index etc. will truncate any non-integers passed to them, so if your sum evaluates to 12.5<=x<13 it will show 13 but would act as 12 in any offset formula. This is pure speculation as I really have no idea how your spreadsheet really works based on a picture... If you want more specific help you'd need to upload an example workbook.

I then hosed it as my post arrived seconds after Roy's asking for an improved title and the policy here is not to reply to a thread which has been requested to be edited.

PS the 1234567890 is because you can't have a post of fewer than 10 characters...
