copying data from one sheet to another

    Hi All,

Im hoping someone can help me out on a problem im having. im am trying to save myself a load of work by creating a database thing in excel, and then have excel use that data in other forms. so i collect data about an seris of individuals and enter it into a table in sheet 1. i would then like excel to take that data and put it into other forms, stored in the same workbook as other sheets. I have tried using =sheet3!a1 and =sheet3!$c$9 commands (also paste special>link)

paste special link works and the data changes as i change it in the origional however if i then manually enter the generated code (=Sheet1!$B$6) it just stays as the formula and does not display the data.

I have attached a file (help.xls) to show what im trying to do. sheet 1 has the data as i aim to gather it and sform shows how i want it to handle the data and display it

Now im not asking for someone to do it for me, but if you can provide help and examples as to how i need to go about this so that i can work with it and get the idea of how to do it.

I really would appreciate any help that you are prepared to give, and if possible can it be done without macros, just using formulas. I ask this as the data needs to go into a variety of forms in different formats so if it can be done with formulas it will make it easier for me to understand.

Hopefully you can understand from the attached file what it is im trying to do.

    Thanks

You have column K formatted as text. That means anything entered in (i.e. formulas) Excel sees only as text. Change the formatting to "General" Any other questions?

Whoops. What a silly billy i am.

Thats that problem solved, but onto another, can i get excel to merge two things into one box? for example i want column b(1st name) and colum c(surname) to merge in a new sheet to display a whole name.

=(Sheet1!B7)=(Sheet1!B8) does not work. Any suggestions please?

    Thanks

    Try
    =Sheet1!B7 & " " & Sheet1!C7
