    Making Two Columns, One

    I have 2 columns - A & B.

The first 5 rows of A have info and in B it is blank.
Then the next five rows are opposite, A is blank and B has info.

My question is, I want to get rid of column B and transfer all the information across in one go, how can I do it?

Before I get someone suggesting I copy and paste, I should add, that it's not as simple as that.

In fact there's nearly 2000 columns and it's not the first 1000 which has info and the second thousand doesn't.

I just want to combine the two columns so that all the information is together.

    Select column A

    Edit > Goto, Special, Blanks

In the formula bar, type = then hit right arrow, then press and hold Ctrl, then hit Enter.

Then select col A again, Edit > Copy, Edit > Paste Special, Values.

    Then delete col B.

    Re: Making Two Columns, One

With me having 2007, I'm following your instructions but obviously slightly different.

    This is what I'm doing:

    Select column A

    Ctrl+G, Special, Blanks

In the formula bar, type = then hit right arrow (which doesn't do anything), then press and hold Ctrl, then hit Enter.

Then select col A again, (right click) Copy, (right click) Paste Special, Values.

    Then delete col B.

Column 'B' disappears and in all the (former) spaces from column A, there's now an equals sign (=) in each one.

None of the information has transferred from column B, however it seems like I'm on the right track, possibly missing one vital step, which I'd guess is the 'enter =, press the right arrow key' as nothing happens when I hit the right arrow key.

BTW, when you say type in the formula bar, do you mean the one with fx before it?

If you select a cell, say A1, type = in the formula bar, and hit right arrow, the formula doesn't change to =B1 ?

I don't know what I was doing wrong but now it works every time - bizarre.

Excellent forum and amazingly rapid solutions from top pro's.

One last query (or should I start another thread)?

I have a column which has dates and times (24:00 format), like so:

    30/06/2010 13:30

I want to remove the time part from the column, how can I do that?
