    Question Running balance

Hi, I am using Excel 2003 (and 2007 on a different PC). I am producing a spreadsheet for my wife's business. I can do certain things but I need to have a single box giving a running total. Such as: =SUM(H9,-E9,-G9) this works except that I need it to give a total for any figure put anywhere in columns H, E and G. I hope this makes sense to you experts out there. I am sure (well almost sure) that this can be done but how?

    Thanks

    Brian

    Re: Running balance

I thought that might have worked but after putting it in nothing happened, by that I mean that although there were numbers in the relevant boxes the total still showed zero. I deleted the -SUM(G:G) and it worked but as soon as I put the G part back in I got a message about circular reference and it didn't work again.

    Thanks

    Re: Running balance

Try puting the formula anywhere other than Columns E,G or H

    That should fix the problem.

Thanks for that Marcol, that worked. I have another problem but will put it in a separate topic.
