    Date function

Hello, I am trying to create a pivot table of monthly expenses. My download of expenses is by date. I want to create a summary by month or year. How can I split the date (for example 12/5/2009 as Day, Month and year 5 in column B, December in column c and 2009 in column D?
    Thank you.

    Re: Date function

There are DAY(), MONTH() and YEAR() functions in Excel, that will split as you desire.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

    Re: Date function

If you have dates for each row of data, you can also do the grouping directly in the pivot table itself by right-clicking the date field and choosing Group.

    Re: Date function

Thank you. The Day, Month and year worked great. I have several pages of dates, so grouping manually may be a bit tedious. But I will try. Thank you both!

    Re: Date function

You only have to right-click one date entry in the pivot table and then group by Year and month. That will do the whole table.
