2010 document opens as a 2007 document

I have an Excel template created in Excel 2010.

I create a new document based on this template (in 2010) and I save the document as an 'Excel Macro Enabled Workbook'.

But when I double-click on my document in Windows, it opens the document in Excel 2007 (which I also have installed on my PC).

I can overcome this by changing the 'Open with' setting under Properties (in Windows) but why is this happening and how can I prevent it?

I had the same problem when i had 2003 installed as well as 2007. it would use 2003 to open any excel file (including .xlsx). in sure i could have found a solution if i dug into the "open with" settings, there is an option to always use the specified "open with", but I ended up just opening a blank 2007 file 1st, and then all other files opened in 2007
