    Replace numbers on axii with text

    Hello,

    I hope you can help. I want to draw a XYScatter graph. On both the x and y axii it should run from -4 to 4. Then I'd like to replace the numbers with text.

    A way of replacing it would be to say: Right click the axis, say Format Axis, Choose number tab, select Custom. Then in the Type box enter the following:
    [=-2]"H".

    The number -2 will then be replaced by 'H'. However this only works for two such entries, and if I try to add more, an error message pops up. The error message states that Excel cannot use the number format I've entered.

    I really need this for an assignment, and I am really desperate.

    you will have to create a dummy series which you will use to display labels with the text you want

    take a look at: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ArbitraryAxis.html

    Hi,
    it seems that the way you propose will work, but it is a whole lot of work just to replace the numbers?? Is there maybe an alternative?

    you can install the add-in they talk about in the website:

    The easiest way to get the tick labels is to apply data labels to each point in the dummy series, then change the label to display the desired text. To do this easily, you need Rob Bovey's XY Chart Labeler, a free and absolutely must have add-in available from http://www.appspro.com. It's compatible with every version of Excel since 97 (and I think there's also an earlier version, but even I use 97). Use the Labeler to add the 'Labels' to this dummy series you've just added, aligned to the left of the points. See the magenta labels in Chart 4.
