    Red face combining cells

Hi all, I wonder if there's a really quick way of combining/merging cells into one that all contain data.

    IE
    :can:You:make:this:into:one:cell:

    =

    :canyoumakethisintoonecell:

I don't need spaces, just one long word.

    Re: combining cells

There's a function, Concatenate, which merges a list of cells, e.g.

    =CONCATENATE(A1, B1, C1)

Or you can just list the cells with ampersands between them:

    =A1 & B1 & C1

    Re: combining cells

You can use the CONCATENATE function to append various cells in to 1, although each cell needs to be specified.

Otherwise you can use a user defined function to take a selection and return an appended string

    Re: combining cells

This code will give you a worksheet function which will combine a range of cells. Adding error trapping and validation is left as an exercise for the reader

    Re: combining cells

If you need a UDF then this might be another way
Please Login or Register to view this content.

If you don't need separators use like this
    =Conc(E5:J5)

    otherwise
    =Conc(E5:J5," * ")

The separator can be any string you might need.

The range can be any size or shape, the function will concatenate by Columns left to right, then by Rows, omitting any blank cells.

    Hope this helps
