How can I group data by month and still have a data span over multiple years without grouping by year because that destroys my data visualization?
Thanks,
Erik

What do you mean by 'destroys your data visualization'?
Could you post an example of what you have and what you want?

If you feel really indebted please consider a donation to charity. My preferred charity is ActionAid but there are plenty of worthy alternatives.
The image is a pivat chart of type stacked area.
The data that feeds this chart consists of these fields:
DATE | DESCRIPTION | AMOUNT (positive & negative value) | CATEGORY
My aim is to get a visual representation that show how much each category was part of the total turnover each month. To be honest, I don´t know if I´m using the chart in the right way to show what I´m looking for.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Still not sure what you're looking for, what you post appears to portray what you need?
the only way to show the pivot chart that I want to separate JAN in 2009 from the same month 2010,, is by adding a "grouping by year". However, that grouping resets all calculations by a yearly basis, and not only by a monthly which is my aim.
I might have fundamentally misunderstood the situation. Don´t know for sure.
I´ve spent some time thinking and I came to the conslusion that the charts I thought was most valuable to use, wasn´t. When I changed chart type to stacked boxes everything made sense to me.

Not sure if this is the issue, but you can select both months and years in the date grouping dialogue box - so you get fell chronological breakdown (years not summed) by month.
Thanks for your suggestion Charlie. I´ll look into it soon.
