Serial Number Formatting

I'm turning to the forum community for help again....

I need to format numbers I have entered into excel in the following format

XXXX.XX.XXXX for example, 8803.30.0030

The numbers are currently entered without the decimal points and there are over 9000 so doing them manuall would be a pain...

If your numbers are in A1:Ax, then in B1 put the formula:

=LEFT(A1,4)&"."&MID(A1,5,2)&"."&RIGHT(A1,4)

Fill that down. You can then select B1:Bx, copy it, select A1 and use PasteSpecial -> Values. You can then delete column B.

An alternative is to do a Custom format of the column of numbers to 0\.00\.0000
