Rank and Show on Bell Chart??

Looking for some assitance relating to statistics and charting in excel. Especially in relation to Range, Rank and Stdevp. I need to review several classes of information results and usually between 10 and 20 in a class.

What I want to find out is the range to identify whether there is a vast difference between the top and bottom results, in my head I want to know how compressed the results are. Are they wide or all gather around the mean.

To graphically display the participants on a bell chart. This should graphically show then where each participant sits(ranks) and show the grouping(compression) of results, shouldn't it? I haven't done maths myself in a while.

I have attached a spreadsheet to display what I am on about.

PS what is range called in Excel?

Edit there doesn't appear to be a standard chart chart type in the charts list.

Re: Statistics Rank and Show on Bell Chart

Well I have found an easy way to fill in all statistics load the analysis toolpak and use the descriptive statistics tool.

That leaves me with a few questions does Excel have the abiility to create a bell chart graph based off elements.

In the descriptive statistics output it has

What exactly does this mean/represent? If the number was 5 would that make me more or less confident and in what?

I have uploaded with added stats the excel worksheet. Still focus is on acheving bell chart with rankings.

Regarding confidence if it maybe helps someone else here is a good link to the answer, I am still trying to digest it. http://www.stat.yale.edu/Courses/199...01/confint.htm

    Hi flebber
Bell chart refers to the central tendendancy of a distribution. So you would have to plot values not rankings. What are you trying to work out?

Perhaps rankings is not the best word, but I wanted to be able to create a bell chart(can't do that yet) and then because my class sizes are small usually less than 20 wanted to plot the members position against the curve.

Felt graphically it may be easier to identify members who were closer to both extremes(furthest away from central tendency) and whether it is spread so wide range of results or most pulled around the centre(small range v large range).

I am trying to graphically represent data to make it easier to digest.

    hmmm. statistics
probably for class results use, dispersion of frequency of results
    1 to 9
    10 to 19 ect
plot the frequency of the scores in there ranges to show a curve
Stdevp is only good for a perfect bell curve
if its skewed to the left or right mode or median may be better indicators of central tendance hmm. statistics

Is fine but by itself is a bit hard to intake. I was wanting to take a few key peices and represent it graphically so it would be clear at aglance what is happening and where everyone is relatively.
