Decision based on presence/absence of picture

I have a Excel 2003 worksheet with 20,000 rows. In the cells in one column there are pictures of check marks, or not. The cells either contain a picture of a check mark, or there is no picture present. I would like to make a calculation based on if there is a picture present or not, something like =if(picture of check mark present,"1",""). Is there a way to make this test? Thanks.

The pictures of the check marks were in the Excel spreadsheet that was delivered. I assume the column was cut and pasted from another application and pasted into Excel.
