Automate Bank Reconciliation Process in Spreadsheet

I'm trying to automate a process. I can't figure out if conditional formatting, or an IF/Then statement is correct to use. Or, perhaps a macro is required? I'm doing a large bank reconciliation....

    An example:
    Columns:

    1) Date, Amount, Ref Number, Result
    2) Date, Amount, Ref Number, Result

So, this is what I'm hoping for: If the amount column in row 1 is the same as the amount column in row 2, AND the ref number in row 1, is the same as Date in row 2, put an "x" in both D1 and D2 (D being the Result cell)

    Thanks,
