Unhappy Why doesn't a given cell display all of the text?

I know. The title of this thread leaves something to be desired. I apologize.

Here is the deal. I've inherited a few excel spreadsheets from a user that didn't know how to use Alt+Enter. As a result, the previous owner of the files used 'merge and center' indiscriminately and made a mess of the spreadsheet (I'm not frustrated about this at all...).

I'm going through, un-merging cells, and copying text from lower cells into the correct spots. The problem? In some instances, after I paste text into a cell and hit the return key, the last X number of lines may not appear. Telling it to auto-size the row doesn't help. I can, however, manually adjust the height of the cell to see the last few lines that were hidden.

Why is this happening? How do I fix it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
