Question baseline v current graph please

    Hi all,

Having trouble with a graph that I thought would be easy..

Please attachment. basically, I need to show a graph for the current dates and the associated values for those dates. that's easy enough but I also need to show what the dates and the associated values were when we took a baseline. It's easy to show the change in values but when the dates have changed from the baseline also, I cant seem to show this as the x axis being the dates can only be the current or baseline dates!!?? I was thinkign of somehow overlaying the graphs, both with different x axis dates but couldnt work out how to do this. Any one any workarounds for this?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Anthony.

Question Re: baseline v current graph please

Hi, here's the file with the graph. As you can se it shows the difference in values from the baseline but I need the graph to show the difference in dates aswell...this I cant do as there is obviously only one set of values for the x -axis. How do I get around this?

    thanks.

I can not see that at all. It does not show any difference. It shows two distinct lines.

Frankly, I don't understand your data. Is your first data point in "current end date" meant to be December 2009 and your last data point December 2015?

Sometimes your "baseline" date is equal, sometimes it's less than and sometimes it's larger than the "current end date".

Can you explain the methodology behind this?

I've tried to chart your data as a XY chart instead of a line chart, but it's a jumble. This leads me to believe that there's something not quite right with the data.

Can you straighten that out, or at least explain, please?

In your first post you write
I also need to show what the dates and the associated values were when we took a baseline
How can you have taken a baseline in May 2015? It's August 2010 right now.

Question Re: baseline v current graph please

My apologies, dont know why I assumed people would understand my data without explanation

So basically, the data is to do with risks. the baseline end date is the date an action to help mitigate the risk will be complete by. The baseline value is the resulting cost impact of the risk. As time goes on, we believe we will either finish the mitigation action the same, earlier or later than the baseline date and the value of risk will also either be the same, go up or go down.

    For example, row 5:

This relates to a risk mitigation action that was due to complete dec09 and will bring the cost impact down to £7595. We now know that we will actually finish the action by september 10 and the cost impact will also decrease to £7435. How do I show both the change in value and date of each of these mitigation actions?

Please shout if this still doesn't make sense.

    many thanks for helping,

    Anthony.

Re: baseline v current graph please

Do you have an image of the result in your head? Can you manually draw a chart that depicts what you want the result to be? Because, frankly, I have a hard time understanding what you want to chart. If you can, please draw a chart, either with the drawing tools, or scan a manually drawn-on-paper chart to illustrate what you want the chart to show.

Maybe we can reverse-engineer from there.

Question Re: baseline v current graph please

    hi,

I've attached a quick diagram. This shows mitigation action 1 and 2 that have changed in both date of completion and cost impact from the baseline. Can this be shown on the same chart?

    Many thanks.
