Excel 2007 : Ranking Values Quickly?

    Ranking Values Quickly?

    Is it possible to highlight a group of cells, doesn't matter what cells, just anywhere, and click on a button or type a formula and excel will put a 1 in the top cell, 2 in the 2nd cell, 3 in the 3rd, 4 in 4th etc.

    So if i highlighted 5 cells, it would go 1,2,3,4,5 but if i highlighted 10 it would go 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10?

    Hope this is possible and makes sense

    A simple macro will do this.

    Open up the VBA editor by hitting ALT F11

    Insert a new module by hitting Insert - Module

    Paste the macro into the empty sheet

    Hit ALT F11 to get back to the worksheet.

    Run the macro by going to tools-macro in Excel 2003 or the view ribbon in Excel 2007.

    I would suggest linking the macro to a keystroke which you will be able to do with the option button in the run macro dialog box.
