    Hide the Excel UI

I have an Excel s/sheet (in much thanks to Roy_UK ) that I would like to 'look' more like an application and less of a s/sheet. Also I'd like to 'hide' all the functions from the user (apart from maybe the File-menu.

Is there a way to hide the interface and if so...how?
I guess in a way just show the 'grid' and the File-menu.

I am not very savvy with Excel at all so please be patient..

See attached spread sheet that I would like to have looking like that.

Please ask if this questions was unclear

Re: Possible to 'hide' the Excel UI?

That's a dictator application, but I wouldn't recommend it for you. You could have big problems to sort out if anything goes wrong. You can have a look at this example

    HideRestoreTBs.zip
    Hope that helps.

Thanks Roy, I opened it up but it seem to 'only' hide the toolbars and formula bar. All the menu options are still visible.

    I found something here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/for...0-9288c5f2a3d6

that I might try out if I figure out how..and gets that brave (stupid?)

    Try this workbook

I have added two more buttons and disabled the "ESC" key for this workbook.

The problem with this might be if you wanted to work with another workbook at the same time.

    Hope this helps

    [EDIT]

I just saw your last post

I would not advise that route unless you really know how to handle it

Thanks - that does make it look great actually!!

One question though...since I now can't see the 'tabs' at the bottom..is there some way to add 'buttons' in the worksheet that will allow you to navigate to the different tabs that way.
Basically I would envision the buttons "Input", "Data" and "Reports" - two on each 'worksheet" (obviously excluding the one you are already on ).

Is there some way to do this...and does it sound reasonable?

Re: Possible to 'hide' the Excel UI?

You can also hide the Row & Column headers in Tools -> Options -> View

Thanks, that made it even 'cleaner'

Can that be done 'automatically' as well (including the side bars, etc) or does that have to be done manually?

I still have the "File, Edit, ' etc menu options...but I'm thinking that might be a good thing to keep visible?

    Change this event to
Please Login or Register to view this content.

This will enable you to navigate by tabs, I thought you just wanted to see the main sheet, sorry about that.

Do you need to see any other controls when you go to another sheet?

    Updated workbook attached.

Row & Column headers hidden in this example.

I'm working with a 2007 machine at present, I'll look at Roys' tips (File menu) when I get to a 2003 m/c later.

I've made a few changes as well.

Also added buttons instead of sheet tabs

    Re: Hide the Excel UI?

    Hmm.....
There is an annoying flaw in both solutions.

If you minimize the workbook and then maximize from the windows toolbar then full screen view is cancelled.

    Putting
Please Login or Register to view this content.
into either the workbook activate or worksheet sheet activate events only partially cures this.

The best compromise at present is to add this to the workbook module

This will need a little more thought.

    [EDIT]
This added to to the workbook does the trick, but I would prefer to avoid it

(Borrowed from MrExcel - NateO - without checking all it does.)

    And then using Roys' example

Can't check it all out at present - got to go for a while.

    Re: Hide the Excel UI

Hey guys and thanks for the AMAZING things you've done!

I made some small changes (and this was FUN!):

    a) I deleted the "Clear" button as I would be too worried that my mom would click on it by mistake
(Basically I just right-clicked the button and chose 'cut')

    b) I re-purposed and re-named the "Close" button (same reason) to "Reporting" and had it go to the third sheet. I did this by looking at what you guys had done..and borrowed:
Please Login or Register to view this content.
    and changed it to Sheet3

    and it worked...!

I did freak out a bit when I realized it took me to a sheet where I now had no way of getting back to sheet1

BUT...after an hour this afternoon I did:
    - I created a button in the Reports sheet named "Input"
    and...
    tied it to the code:
Please Login or Register to view this content.
It took me some time before I noticed that I had to put the name of the sheet "Reports" infront of the button name :D I think my neighbours heard me when I got that working :D

I used the 935A3000.xls s/sheet to base my work on...but it seems like the "Save" feature was broken in it...and is now also in my latest version (see attached). I can't seem to figure THAT one out though...I'm hoping it's an easy fix to the attached s/sheet?
I messed up on the "Save" feature though...now it won't save... I'll post my latest s/sheet if I can't fix it myself

EDIT: Neeevermind, I fixed it for you Roy The Save button was tied to the wrong macro

Anyway, the attached s/sheet "Water8" is the latest re-incarnation and it starting, to me, to look GREAT!!

Do you guys have any thoughts/worries/suggestions/ideas for the INPUT sheet the way it looks now?

If not I think I'll continue looking at what I could possibly do with reporting. I am starting to hate Pivot tables though

Thanks Roy for all help from you and Marcol. It was such a thrill to do the changes above myself and see it work!!

My mom added some 'requirements' (I created another post) and I'm still struggling with reporting but I'm so happy to have something that is such a good start!
